Date and location: Feb 2023 – Rontaeak village Siem Reap area, Cambodia
We provided the following to the small rural village of Rontaek:
4 water pumps
2 sanitation unit
A computer training facility (incl teachers)
3 bicycles
400kg of clothing
SITUATION:
Today, villagers use pond water for their daily needs and, with no access to sanitation facilities, practice open defecation, resulting in a potentially deadly cycle of unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene. Village children do go to school but do not have access to ICT infrastructure and are not currently taught digital literacy skills.
GOAL:
We aim to raise USD 8,500, and your donation will go directly towards building a computer training facility as well as a water pump and sanitation unit in Rontaeak
Where’s the money going?
US$2,200 – building the new water pump
US$1,200 – building the sanitation unit which consists of 1 toilet
US$2,040 – cost of running the computer training for 6 months for 60 kids
US$200 – cost of local operations manager to project manage the installation of the pump
US$200 – cost of our local operations manager to project manage the construction of the toilet
US$2,000 – The cost of buying 10 second-hand laptops
Paypal fees of ~4%.
IMPACT:
Providing clean water and a proper sanitation area will enable the community to live healthier lives and raise their children in the knowledge that they are safe from many diseases caused by unsanitary conditions and unclean water.
Providing computer education allows the children to have a chance to break out of poverty and secure jobs in the future.
Thank you for all of your support!

A little more background
Cambodia’s annual battle with the Monsoon season
Every year between May and November, Cambodia’s land becomes vulnerable. This is due to the monsoon season and the Mekong River that runs through. With the lack of proper infrastructure in dealing with the excess rain, the murky water stagnates in the area, which creates saturated unstable soils, contaminates the water with waste and excrement, and attracts snakes and mosquitoes.
During this period of time, more than 3 million people in Cambodia lacked access to safe water and 5 million lacked access to proper sanitation areas. With approximately 77 percent of Cambodians living in rural areas, poor access to safe water and sanitation disproportionately affects these rural communities.
This past year has been a challenge for all of us. Like in Cambodia and millions of others around the world, we are navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many of us are fortunate to have access to clean water right at our fingertips. This, unfortunately, is not the case for many families in Cambodia and now more than ever they are faced with the challenge of living without access to safe and clean water and sanitary facilities
Cambodia is very vulnerable to climate change. The monsoon season from May to November every year, and has the Mekong River which flows through.
April 2011
Almost 12 years ago, MMPower Foundation founder, Emmanuel Jaquet and Cambodia’s Operations and Instructor, Songhy Tam worked together on a project to build a water pump and sanitation area in Prolet Village – a community where the organisation had established the second computer training program. After all these years, the village has been able to have clean water and toilets which has helped the community thrive and focus to build a better future for the children
